Writing My Life Away
Yay! I have TV again! What kind of TV? Big Brother TV. Yeah, I'm a fan (it's one of my guilty pleasures). And the show premiered tonight, unfortunately I didn't have the computer on so I didn't get any screen caps... next week, promise! What do I think so far? Well, this is probably the prettiest cast ever. Seriously, I think they picked out all of the Pretty Peeps from high schools across the country and stuck 'em in a house. But that should be entertaining as the show goes on because you know the girls will start fighting soon. As you can tell I don't really have a favorite yet. Hey, I've only seen 1 hour. https://www.joom.com/en/best/sleeveless-hoodie-men
Yeesh, gimme a break! The twists? Meh. Not great, not completely unique but should still make for some good summertime TV. The big twist is that enemies are together - a rival, an enemy - you know the deal. But didn't they do this, like 3 seasons ago with the Ex-Factor? Yeah, I remember that, too. The difference is that there is only 1 ex-couple (two gay men), the others are high school rivals (yeah, that should be mature) and a father/daughter who haven't spoken in 2 years (and I'd love to know what that is about but I doubt we get the full story). The other twist is that there is an America's Player - a person who we get to make do things every week. That should be really, really fun! Even simply to see what we can get 'em to do. Still, it should be an overall interesting season...the first episodes are always hard to gauge but I'm already looking forward to Sunday night! https://www.joom.com/en/best/palladium-boots
A Vacation In My Mind...
so I mentioned we're not technically far away from home on this vacation...well we're so close that the hubster actually had to do a work thing last night so I tagged along.
One of the benefits of him being in radio is that we do a lot of cool promo things for the station...and last night was one of them. We cruised up to Kelly's Island (Lake Erie) and had a great night for it - it wasn't too hot, the water was just right. Nice all the way around. I'm posting a few pics here... if you wanna see more go here and click on the Cruise photo album. (before you ask, neither of the pics here are of me... I was behind the camera most of the time last night). The guy in the middle of this one is Clark - the best intern the hubby's ever had...so much so that he asked him to come back this summer! https://www.joom.com/en/best/theracane-blue
and the guy mostly hidden in this one is none other than Kenny Chesney. No, not the real Kenny (he's on tour) this is Cardboard Kenny...who was getting quite the workout! See, the object of the cruise was to give away some tix to Kenny's show in Cleveland...we had a ball. Lots of fun, lots of good music, lots of dancing... and a few drunk peeps to make fun of. Hey, they don't remember it!
Seriously, probably the most fun I've had at an event in a long time...although it probably isn't the most fun the boat company's had because we got just a teensy bit rowdy - read more - https://www.joom.com/en/best/baggy-jeans
A Touch of the Exotic
We aren't anyplace exotic - just a little lake town about 45 minutes down the road from our home but it really feels like a totally different place. I can look out our living room window and just watch the water. Makes me feel like we're someplace a little bit more exotic. Not that I'm complaining. But this has given me a taste of our big vacation next winter. We're headed to Maui and already have a Maui vacation rental lined up - https://www.joom.com/en/best/baggy-jeans
It's a cozy little villa on the beach - with a pool! We'll be able to walk off the lanai and into the surf. Exactly the kind of place we've dreamed about but never gone. I can't wait. Until then I'm making do with our lakefront beach rental here on Catawba...and every minute I'm looking more forward to February and Hawaii!
We're headed to a civil war monument tomorrow and I'll post a few pics if I get any good ones - https://www.joom.com/en/best/40-gallon-breeder-tank-for-sale Promise!
Crossing Our Fingers...
I mentioned a few weeks ago that a good friend of ours was researching drug rehab centers for her teenage child. Well the kiddo has been "in" for about 4 weeks now and is headed home in another 2 weeks. Her only contact has been on family days and a couple of letters but from what she has told me, it sounds like the kiddo is turning the corner. We're planning a welcome home party in a few weeks... https://www.joom.com/en/best/nintendo-switch-controllers I'm really hopeful for the whole family and keeping my fingers crossed that they really have turned the corner.
Some of the Work, None of the Stress
After the hubster's grandfather passed away three weeks ago we all started talking about packing his belongings. Keeping some of the special mementos but giving the big stuff away. The hubster's mom couldn't do it all herself so we pitched in. About half way through the week of packing we realized we needed help - so we contacted a cheap moving company. Boy am I glad we did. Seriously, they did the packing and hauling and we only had to direct https://www.joom.com/en/best/clear-tv-antenna-walgreens
When we move to the new house, I am definitely calling them back. I'll packing up the delicate stuff (because I'm just that anal) but I'll let them do the hauling. So so so so much simpler that way! And seriously, they are really affordable and not just money-wise. It lowers the stress level involved with moving, lowers the fatigue that moving leaves you with. And it's money well spent - https://www.joom.com/en/best/vampire-fangs!
Off The Green...
So the hubster has been attempting to teach me how to golf. Yeah. Attempting. Apparently my hand-eye coordination is better with bigger balls - like volleyballs or basketballs - not small golf balls. Because most of mine seem to wind up 1) at the bottom of the lake, 2) buried deep in the sand traps or 3) as decorator pieces for the ducks living next to the lake.
Yeah, I've lost a lot of balls. I think the hubster should invest in some golf balls from this place. You can buy used balls by the dozen at huge savings (and since I lose roughly 3 out of 7 balls... https://www.joom.com/en/best/dnd-dice-metal). Cool deal, huh?
I attend a lot of conferences. Seriously. A. Lot. And it always amazes me the lengths some go through to promote a new book, new at-home-accounting software program... you name it. I've seen mailboxes, lunchboxes and even decorative Christmas trees with branded ornaments. What?!? Seriously, the best promo (in my opinion) is imprinted pens. Why? Because people use pens. The pens go home with the conference attendees and are used, not thrown in a closet or sent to good will in a couple of months https://www.joom.com/en/best/best-selling-sega-genesis-game
Seriously, easy is good. Conference attendees don't want a lot of swag that takes up luggage space...we want useable, easy to take home swag.
All About Investing...
One of the jobs I gave myself when I went freelance full time was our retirement. Now I'm not an expert on the stock market, mutual funds or money market accounts by any stretch of the imagination but I do have a lot more time that I can commit to finding out the right info than the hubster does. So I took it over. I was checking our accounts and funds over the weekend https://www.joom.com/en/best/apple-lightning-hdmi. We are pleasantly ahead of schedule on the retirement income. So much so that we can probably completely retire at 55.
That's a bit ahead of the game considering that social security now has the minimum retirement age to receive their benefits at 62. Bleh. Who wants to work that long? Will I retire? No, but I will cut back at that point. Since I work for myself and only need a computer I can "work" while I'm retired fairly easily.
One of the websites I've used to get the investing information we use is PowerOptions. They have a ton of good info from current rankings to historical options data that can help you make those important investing decisions. If you're looking for good investment advice and information, check them out https://www.joom.com/en/best/v-for-vendetta-mask !
Oh So Comfy!
I am so going shopping for furniture (after the move) with Stacey. Why? Because she just got the most amazing theater seating for her rec room. It's this amazingly soft leather that just feels... ahhhh is the best way I can describe it. One sectional and one love seat with reclining action. Absolutely amazing. I so wish we had room in the condo...but we barely have room for our one sectional.
That's okay. I can wait. Just not much longer https://www.joom.com/en/best/wooden-hamster-cage
I Wanna Go!
The in-laws are planning a late summer vacation (they're actually going to miss the hubster's birthday! for shame!) and I so wanna go. Not with them, but to the same area. They found this amazing little Pennsylvania bed and breakfast that looks amazing. I love bed-and-breakfast places and the area has a lot to offer - https://www.joom.com/en/best/playstation-vita-1000.
I've bookmarked their site for a late winter retreat with the hubster...maybe we can make a long weekend getaway at some point after Valentine's Day.. until then our time is very restricted because of other weekend retreats.
Fun Baby Gifts
So my cousin just had twins, one of the hubster's cousins just had a baby and we have a couple of friends who recently announced they were expecting. So I've been doing a lot of baby shopping and baby gift making lately. And I love it. The only thing that would be better is if I was doing this shopping and gift making for our own child...but hopefully that will happen soon - https://www.joom.com/en/best/velvet-sectional-sofas.
For the already-arrived babies, I've been looking for personalized baby gifts. In my searches I ran across The Baby Nest, which offers an amazing supply of personalized gifts for baby, mom and siblings. Cool, huh? I really like doing the personalized gift thing - putting a name on a blanket, having a name or an emblem engraved on a rattle or keepsake. It's so much more friendly that just buying a car seat or play pen at the store https://www.joom.com/en/best/kids-deadpool-costume and wrapping it up.
That's probably why I knock myself out making receiving blankets and whatnot and adding something else from their registry list. But it's something I like to do...so why not do it?
I Miss My Yard!
This is going to sound completely off the wall - but I miss my mailbox. Seriously. Miss it. In our complex, all of the mail is delivered to small boxes in our community building...nicely convenient but not the same as walking to the curb to collect the mail from my old residential mailboxes at joom https://www.joom.com/en/best/croc-shoes.
In my wanderings the other day I started looking a different types of mailboxes for the move to the new house (that is now only 6 months away. Yay!) We know the neighborhood we want to live in and one of these post mount mailboxes is probably what we'll go for. They're simple but nicely proportioned https://www.joom.com/en/best/japanese-noh-mask. Did I just say nicely proportioned about a mailbox? Man, I must be getting old! Anyway, with one of these address plaques I think we'll have a classy curb!
No More Price Is Right?!?!
I just realized that today was the official last day for Bob Barker on The Price Is Right...You know, I have never known the show to be minus Bob, and I'm not sure if it can be. I know, I know, everyone is replaceable...but I'm not so sure. With the decline of game shows, I'm just not sure there is anyone around that could host the show the way he did.
Thursday Thirteen, edition #10
Finally I get to my double-digit T13 post!!! And since I missed last week, I thought I'd talk about productivity this week... Summer rolls around and it seems like the writing world grinds to a halt. There are conferences, workshops, editors on vacation, your own vacation and productivity goes down the tubes. But it doesn't have to. Here are a few tips to increase your summertime productivity - https://www.joom.com/en/best/lego-castle-sets
Psychology by Numbers
There are times with I'm writing, specifically in my fiction writing, that I have to delve into the psyche of the characters. What is motivating this behavior? Why are they reacting in such and such a manner. I have a whole shelf of psych 101 books, a couple left over from college and several that I've picked up along the way. But sometimes I feel like I'm doing psychology by numbers... like those old paint by number pictures, that I'm just filling in the blanks the way they've always been filled in. Kind of by rote.
I'm not a fan of that kind of writing and it's been bugging me, but I'm not sure what to do about it. I could go back to school but I don't have the time, which leaves me to online courses. I actually like a lot of online degree programs and Capella Univeristy has an accredited online psychology degree program that is actually quite good https://www.joom.com/en/best/wooden-hamster-cage.
Will I go back to school? I'm not sure. I'm very much into self-teaching and figuring things out on my own. But I am tempted. Especially if I can find the time and make the expense worthwhile...but, hey, my college loans are almost paid off and I'll have a nice chunk of change sitting around burning a hole in my pocket soon!
Look What I Got!!
I couple weeks ago, I took a PayPerPost opp for The Police reunion concerts this summer... and they just sent me a boatload of swag, including the definitive collection of Police hits! (you can read the post that won the swag here)
How cool is that?
I love the Police, even though I missed them the first time around, and it looks like we're going to get to see them when they hit our area later this summer. I can't wait! Between than and the Def Leppard concert that I managed to get tickets for, the hubster is going to have a jam-packed summer concert series!
Isn't PPP great? They allow me to make money blogging, writing about things I'd write about anyway...and they send great stuff from time to time! I love it!
